Reasons for a corrective transplant
Unfortunately there are cases where the result of a first hair transplant is unsatisfactory. Common problems: a hairline that is too low or unnatural, the wrong angle of growth, too little density, visible scars after FUT procedures or the “doll's hair look” of older techniques.
What can be corrected
- An unnatural hairline: with fine single-hair grafts and natural corrections of the angle
- Too little density: filling in with further grafts — provided there are donor reserves
- FUT scars: visually concealed with FUE grafts .
- The doll's hair look: repositioning wrongly placed grafts
- Over-harvesting of the donor area: covering as needed with the remaining grafts
Why repair procedures are more demanding
Corrective transplants are more complex than first procedures: the donor reserves may be limited after the first operation. Existing grafts have to be preserved. Scar tissue is harder to work with. Repair procedures therefore call for particular experience and conservative planning.
At the earliest after 12 months
A correction should be carried out at the earliest 12 months after the first operation, when the result is fully visible. That makes it possible to judge realistically what actually has to be corrected. Read how healing progresses.
Which documents are needed for the consultation
- Photos before and after the first transplant
- The surgical report (if available)
- The number of grafts transplanted at the time
- Current photos of the scalp and donor area
