That depends on the findings and the appointment time available. What material is used for a filling – and what does it cost in total?

A written quote stating the tooth number, the planned material and all costs is advisable. This makes it possible to trace later what was agreed and actually done. A clear invoice and a copy of the treatment records are especially important for treatment abroad.

Is dental cleaning unpleasant?

It can be unpleasant on sensitive tooth necks; if the gums are inflamed, they may bleed during cleaning. Anyone taking blood thinners or with very sensitive teeth should mention this before the appointment.

Is treatment abroad really cheaper?

Generally, yes. What should be compared is the total cost: examination, any necessary X-rays (usually free of charge), cleaning or filling, travel and possible follow-up appointments.

Will my health insurance reimburse treatment in Croatia or Slovenia?

Reimbursement for planned dental treatment within the EU is possible under certain conditions, but not automatic: what matters, among other things, is whether the service is covered in your home country; reimbursement is generally limited to the rules and rates applicable there. An application may also be possible for treatment at a private clinic. Patients should clarify the specific service before travelling with their health insurance fund or insurer.

Is my European Health Insurance Card sufficient for this?

No, not for a specifically planned treatment. The EHIC is intended for medically necessary, unplanned care during a temporary stay – not as a general cost coverage for a booked dental appointment.
