Fixed Orthodontics / Braces
Brackets – classic metal or tooth-coloured ceramic
About the treatment
The term fixed orthodontics refers to treatment with a brace that remains firmly attached to the teeth throughout the active treatment period. Brackets are the small attachments bonded to individual teeth – not the entire brace. An archwire connects them and transmits the forces that gradually move the teeth.
The greatest advantage of brackets is that a fixed brace allows teeth to be moved precisely and continuously . This is particularly relevant when the aim is not only to straighten individual visible teeth but also to correct the bite more comprehensively. Whether brackets are better suited for this than Invisalign depends on the individual findings.
The key advantages
- Targeted tooth movement: Brackets and archwires allow the orthodontic practice to control the movement of individual teeth precisely.
- Suitable for more demanding cases too: A fixed appliance can be a sensible choice for more extensive tooth and bite corrections where aligners reach their limits.
- No daily insertion needed: The brace stays in the mouth and keeps working even when you are not thinking about it. Unlike aligners, its effect does not depend on wearing the trays for long enough every day.
- Different versions: In addition to metal brackets, tooth-coloured versions are available if you want the brace to be less noticeable.
The downside: Brackets make oral hygiene more demanding and can cause sore spots in the first few days or after adjustments. For patients considering treatment in Croatia, the regular in-person check-ups are also part of the decision – not just the price of fitting the brace.
